At a liturgical architecture firm, the goal is to create spaces that foster community and connection. These firms design buildings that serve as the heart of a community, bringing people together for worship, celebration, and everyday life.

The firm's approach is centered around understanding the needs and values of the community they're designing for. By doing so, they create spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and meaningful.

In one notable example, the firm designed a chapel that features a large, open space with a soaring ceiling. This design allows for a sense of unity and togetherness among the congregation, as well as a sense of grandeur and awe.

Our team takes a collaborative approach, working closely with clients and stakeholders to ensure that every project meets their unique needs and goals. We believe that this team approach is essential to delivering successful projects that exceed expectations.

Budget accuracy is another critical baseline standard we aim to achieve in every project. This means staying within budget, avoiding costly surprises, and delivering value to our clients without sacrificing quality or integrity.

Projects

Our firm has had the privilege of working on numerous projects that showcase our expertise in liturgical architecture. We've designed spaces that inspire spiritual growth and community.

From Advent Lutheran Church in West Lawn, PA to World Vision Church in Sharon Hill, PA, we've worked with various denominations and congregations to create spaces that meet their unique needs. Our team takes the time to understand the specific requirements of each project.

Some of our notable projects include the Evangelical Christian Church in Gilbraltar, PA, which features a beautiful sanctuary with a vaulted ceiling, and the First Romanian Christian Church in Oley, PA, which is currently in the construction phase. We're proud to have played a role in bringing these projects to life.

Lower Providence

Lower Providence is a great example of how master planning can help churches evaluate different scenarios for their facilities. Located in Eagleville, PA, the church worked with Watkins Architect to conduct a master planning study.

This study aimed to evaluate several scenarios for a gym/multi-purpose room, elevator, kitchen, and restrooms. The study also included construction budgeting to help the church make informed decisions.

Developing a master plan is an essential step in the church design process, as it helps churches create a worship space that matches their unique needs and goals. This process involves learning the church's DNA, identifying its goals, needs, barriers, and challenges, and outlining a long-term plan for growth.

Here are some key elements that are often included in a church master plan:

  • Learning the church's DNA to understand its heart and mission
  • Identifying unique goals, needs, barriers, and challenges
  • Developing a long-term plan for a worship space that can grow with the church
  • Outlining the types of spaces needed, such as children's, youth, adult classrooms, and worship center

A church building serves not just as a physical space but as an embodiment of the congregation's faith, vision, and community.

Stained glass, intimate alcoves, and tranquil outdoor spaces foster spiritual connections and enrich the modern worship experience.

TDP's experienced team helps transform houses of worship into one-of-a-kind sanctuaries tailored to each congregation's unique needs.

Watkins Architect designed a three-story, 12,000 SF addition and renovations to Zion's Union Church in Maxatawny PA, including a Narthex, offices, kitchen, and restrooms.

The primary goals of the addition were to provide accessibility for aging members and to supplement existing classrooms for both children and adults.

The design process took care to address connectivity between the addition and existing building, complement and highlight the architectural features of the original 1890 building, and meet current and future spatial needs.

Master planning was executed to determine the feasibility of future growth, and the exterior of the addition was designed to blend with the existing historical church.
